Then Honolulu happened!
It took close to an hour and a half from the time we landed to the time we managed to get away with our rental car. A stark contrast with how things were in Maui and how organised Alamo were there.
We waited for about half an hour, they didn't give a crap. It seems having a booking doesnt really count for anything. It was 36 degrees outside where we waited, we kinda sorta didnt give a crap either - just over it and wanted to get this leg of the trip underway. We had booked a Mustang and got a Camiro. Loaded her up with our luggage, worked out how the car all worked and finally a helpful Alamo lady appeared to tell us that the convertible roof was stuffed. So we unpacked, and finally a Mustang was made available. A car that appears to have vomit on the dash, dog hair... and quite frankly looked like a dirty pile of shit.
At this stage we just wanted to get on the road - and by now it was peak out traffic. At least the calmness from Maui paid off... and we just rolled with it.
Waikiki is crazy. We plan to get outta here tomorrow and venture around places that have limited tourists and hustle and bustle.
Waikiki beach itself is stunning though, and just like I remember from 25 years ago. It could still be mistaken as being an outter suburb of Tokyo.
We ended up settling for the usual Thursday fare... the queue for Cheesecake Factory was 45 minutes.
Time for sleep and another day of randomness tomorrow.
And already contemplating our next vacation to Maui.
